Fault Lines
As our planet’s voice gets louder, are we ready to listen?
Fault Lines pulls at the tension in our relationship with nature. Our constant pursuit of progress increasing the speed of life has left us out of sync with the natural world.
A scorched earth, from the rubble and the ruin the survivors emerge. A new world, a second chance. Within changing landscapes created from striking digital illustrations and evocative music, our survivors navigate the world, racing towards an unknown future.
Fault Lines explores the environmental damage we’ve inflicted but asks what happens when we stand together with hope? What will that take?
New writing by Nick Walker (award winning writer, BBC) gives voice to both the existential panic, alongside the everyday problem solving needed to live on a hotter, more crowded, and less predictable planet.
With an original sound score by Dougie Evans, the projection of digital imagery by Zach Walker (MakeAmplify) and digital moving illustrations by Courtney McCarthy, the natural world enters the space to create a rich sensory world for the performers.

Fault Lines synopsis
The past and a present.
A scotched earth. A prologue.
A group of people, survivors, appear.
They are looking. Looking a new home.
They look and look, but can’t agree.
A decision. A place is found. It feels like home. Like before.
The survivors make a new home together.
It’s too small at first, but they build out.
They try to remake the old world. Cracks form on the walls.
They go too far. Try to make it like before. It fails. Just like before.
Their new world crumbles. Panic. Conflict. Just like before.
A final straw. A return to violence. A point of no return.
Their new world breaks irreparably.
The present and a future.
From the rubble and ruin the survivors emerge. A lesson learned.
A voice on the wind. The voice of a child. A new, and different path!
They set sail. In search of the voice.
They have resolve. Optimism. The child’s voice offers hope.
An island is spotted. A new world? A second chance?
A survivor swims to the island.
A new tribe appears. The survivors are welcomed.
The survivors let go of the before. They realise something new is needed.
They stand together and face a new future. Together.
Fault Lines brings together the stunning physicality of 6 global dancers, striking digital images (Zach Walker Make Amplify), cinematic music (Dougie Evans) and new writing (Nick Walker BBC award winning writer) to create an immersive experience that inspires audiences to engage with positive personal action for a more sustainable future.
This work is informed by community co-creation including discussions, sharing sessions, workshops and opportunities to dance in the work as part of the community cast. We have developed the work with a low carbon footprint, recycling, reusing and through replacing our usual practice of working with a set to working with digital projection. We are keen to share what we have learnt with other artists to encourage rethinking.
