Carrie's Insights: The Incredible Presence of a Remarkable Absence

The Incredible Presence (1).jpg

This morning we gave the educational workshop material that we made yesterday a little test run on ourselves, our creations for the future participatory sessions felt exciting and fresh- good work team Lîla! ...oh, and Kai has invented a team game which he tested out on us... It is excellent (I won!!) and I would say more but I think he may not appreciate his next business venture being leaked over Lîla blogs... However, Watch out Dragons' Den!!!

The work is now really speaking, not only theatrically but also 'shouting' out to us where last minute adjustments need to be made... It is bringing a wholeness to our journey through the dance and in clarifying intention and narrative.

We worked closely with Dougie today to weave the soundtrack to the episodes within the piece... I think we can safely say he has put in some serious artistry here but also restraint, like each of us dancers I guess- finding and maintaining the line between too much expression and too little so that the narrative episodes are specific in feeling but not descriptive... Working in this way with Dougie and his music gives me a greater sense of pace and timing, what I particularly enjoy with Dougie's music is how a sound organically shifts from background to foreground in the composition and that as a performer you can tune into its origins and see it through like a personal motif; there is space to play and build personal ties as well as shared ones between the group.

Looking forward to Thursday- running the work and pushing the detail further!
